Editor's notes (Spring 09)

Editor’s notes

Welcome to the Spring edition of Graduate Market Trends. Although the economic down turn persists, research reports are showing a varied picture with some sectors increasing their graduate intake. Professor David Rae from Lincoln University presents his views on how we are entering a new economic age, which be believes necessitates a new approach to enterprise and using different business models and he writes about the implication this has for graduates and graduate jobs. It would be really interesting to learn what GMT readers think about these ideas and I would invite readers to contribute their perspectives by email to the author and/or GMT or by leaving comments on the HECSU blog at:

http://www.hecsu.blogspot.com/

This edition also features an article about a careers tool for PhD students developed at the University of Reading as well as the findings of a career coaching project at the University of Bedfordshire funded by HECSU. Don’t forget to take a look at the HECSU website where you can find the information on newly funded Putting Research into Practice (PROP) projects. We also present research on employer demand for higher level skills and the findings from a project mapping provision and participation in postgraduate creative arts and design.
